Background: November 2005 saw the resumption of WIIS activity in Brussels. As in the past, the group is holding monthly speaker meetings in private homes, bringing women together from a wide range of institutional settings in order to discuss issues of common concern. Being based in Brussels – the heart of the European Union and NATO – the groups mainly focuses on security issues linked to these two institutions, including response to disaster and crisis management, civil-military cooperation, and gender and conflict issues.

Background: Following the WIIS conference titled Baltic Regional Security Challenges held in Riga, Latvia in May 2003, a WIIS organization was started in Tallinn, Estonia. The group's first meeting featured The Honorable Elisabet Bonnier, Swedish Ambassador to Estonia.

Background: WIIS.de was officially launched on October 21, 2003, at a reception hosted by The Honorable Riina Kionka, then Estonian Ambassador to Germany.  Since that time, its membership has increased to more than 100 members. WIIS.de welcomes members from politics, business, academia, military, and media. Although founded in Berlin, the organization also includes members from other German cities. Regional groups exist in Hamburg and Cologne.

Women In Security Conflict Management and Peace (WISCOMP)

Background: WISCOMP, established in 1999, is a project of the Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness The Dalai Lama. It sees its role as creating a space to engender an inclusive, conceptual vocabulary in the areas of peace, security and conflict transformation. To this end, it seeks to empower new voices and promote a more people-oriented and gender sensitive discourse on matters relating to peace and security. WISCOMP has several ongoing projects including the Conflict Transformation Workshop; Scholar of Peace Fellowships; WISCOMP Kashmir Initiative; Transcending Conflict: Gender and Non-traditional Security in South Asia program; and WISCOMP Diplomacy Initiative.
